Most churches today are bent on institutional survival. They are "businesses". I know...they have to be good stewards and all that. But they are overly-concerned with the bottom line...not profits, but expansion. There is a kind of provincial power-grab among the churches for increasing numbers and revenues. What gets lost is what matters most: spiritual growth. Many churches are just one big play-pen, with infants wandering around not knowing why the world is so jumbled and crazy. Believers need, above all else, to grow, so they will know how to be empowered by the Holy Spirit, Who will enable them to love, exercise their gifts, and bear spiritual fruit.
It is evident that the issue of maturity is getting shoved to the side. Where is there a church that is really providing ways for believers to grow? Churches need to teach believers how to grow, and meanwhile, provide...as the heart of their program...ways for this growth to occur.
Knowing what it is that increases growth is plainly identified and delineated in Scripture. It is clear how maturity comes, as we see in the following:
1. Constantly feed on the nutritious content of the Word.
2. Process what is learned by believing the lessons taught and the promises revealed.
3. Confess known sins to God to clear the spiritual pipes, and then pray for wisdom.
4. When you study, the Holy Spirit will illuminate the truth from the Word to spur your growth.
5. Endure with faith and patience the tests and trials God brings to strengthen your faith.
6. Avail yourself of the gifts of other believers. These are designed to help you grow.
For starters, and I say this with all humility: Access the books at this website. It costs nothing to download them, and costs little or nothing to print them. Once you have the first book in readable form, find the time to read it, and then move on to the next one. By the time you are finished with all of them, you will have a solid foundation on which to build your Christian life and faith.
This is from my heart, fellow believer: You must not stay a baby confined to the spiritual play-pen for the rest of your life. Get on the pathway to maturity and grow into a strong, confident, productive Christian. The Word is a lamp that will light this path for you. Start today...and God bless your journey.
